Penguin Island Kayake Tour

I'm gonna start off this post by saying that this tour was FUCKING AMAZING. I've put off writing a post just because I was waiting for the pictures to be uploaded, makes it a bit more interesting if you guys can get a snap shot of what I experienced.

So I did this tour on my own, well I say on my own, it was with 6 other lovely girls and the tour guide, Alfie. Going for something like this on my own though is something I never would have done back home, or even considered doing here, but I am so happy I did.

In the morning, Alfie drove us all down to Rockingham. We Kayaked from there to seal island, although it's sea lions that inhabit the island, not seals. One of them even gave us a wave. Just doing that tinniest bit of kayaking proved quickly just how un-frickin-fit I really am! On the way though, we saw at least six dolphins, all swimming and jumping alongside us! Seriously such an amazing feeling. From there we went to penguin island, which felt like another bloody marathon in itself. We had time to relax on the beach and soak up the rays, where I realised I look like a female version of the milky bar kid. It's quite possible I'm the palest human in Australia.

Penguin Island is such a beautiful place and all the penguins we saw were ridiculously cute. Constantly thought of 'Madagascar' while we were there. The last part of out trip involved a small rescue mission to save one of our kayakes a couple had taken out, apparently we did so well that Alfie bought us all delicious apple cider for the way home. Blissful!

A New Job and a Road Trip

I got a job! Woohoo! After a hefty few days of panicking about money and how I'm going to fund my travelling and drinking habits, I had a really good interview for a job in a pharmacy. Yeah yeah, I know its like 'You're doing the same job, just in a different country'. That might be the case, but I can't spend my days off lounging on a beautiful beach and soaking up the rays in England, can I?
To be honest, its not what I had in mind as my first job, I imagined myself in a really laid back bar or a retro clothes shop (silly I know), but when you need money quickly, you have to rely on the skills you already have, to get the job fast. Don (my boss to be as off 2 Mondays) offered me the job there and then, it's safe to say I can't wait to start earning some wonga!
So, now that I have just about a week abs a half before I start full time hours again, I thought I better get some travelling in quick. Hence my journey down to Dunsborough, near Margaret River. I'm on my way now to meet Lena, where were gonna stay at the YHA for 4 days. We're then going on a road trip baby! I absolutely cannot wait, pictures will follow I'm sure.

P.s. Had a whole 6 bed dorm to myself last night, it was blissful! Apparently I was unable to leave my messy habits at home though.

Following my horrendous breakdown on Thursday, I ended up having a really good day on Friday. I took a little trip to the WA art gallery. Now normally an art gallery wouldn't be at the top of my list for exciting things to do, especially on my lonesome, but it was free and so i thought 'when in Rome' and all that jazz. I think I must have spent a good hour in there, wondering around, and surprisingly getting drawn towards some weird but really interesting pieces. It was so peaceful in there (except for the incessant security guard following me around like I was going to pick one off the wall, stuff it in my handbag and hall arse out of there). My favourite part was a selection of photos taken by a guy called Jackson Eaton (means nothing to me either), but I thought the idea was pretty cool.

I spent most of the day mooching around town, drinking tea and listening to music. Its quite surprising how much of nice day you can have even when you're alone. Oooo one last thing I HAVE to mention. Thursday was the day I met Lena, a Swiss girl who was staying in my room. You know when you meet someone and you just instantly click. That's exactly what happened. She only stayed here three days and been gone not even two and we've already made plans to meet in Dunsborough for 4 days, see some of the beautiful beaches and do some wine tasting!

First post from Oz :)

Fuck, where to begin. I've only been here 5 days, but in that short space of time I think I've felt every emotion under the sun. Fear, excitement, anticipation, overwhelmingness (that word looks so wrong but google tells me its right). Oh and you know that emotion 'What-the-actual-fuck-am-I-doing?!' That too. I won't bore you all with details of how long the flights were or the fact that I sat next to a very large man on the first plane, which actually meant that the flight socks my lovely ma bought for me were probably a waste of money, circulation was cut off quite quickly. He was a laugh though.

My first day here was pretty tough I'll admit. As much as getting on and off planes and getting on a bus here, was quite simple, the hard part was actually walking into an empty room, dumping my overly large rucksack, and thinking 'Well what do I do now?'. I actually ended up meeting a really nice German girl called Leonni, who I went into town with that evening to see the Christmas lights.

On the Monday I ended up meeting Grienne (its irish if you were wondering) and Keiran, two lovely gals travelling around Oz for 3 weeks. We spent three days hanging out and seeing some sights of Perth. OBVIOUSLY seeing a Kangaroo was first on the list. I know it's such a cliche but you can't come to Oz and not see one, can you?! We also went out drinking a couple of nights (The brass monkey was my fav, a little home from home) taking a trip to Freemantle, and taking a visit to kings park, all of which had the most incredible views!

Today was a struggle I'll be honest. I almost don't want to say that because I know some people reading this will be thinking 'Your day was a struggle? Oh I'm sorry its such a struggle over the other side of the world where you have no job and blazing sunshine'. Well it fucking is! I had no idea how tough it could be travelling alone, getting up in the morning and wanting to speak to friends or family, but not being able to because you know they're asleep and most likely have work in the morning. Rough day, but speaking to my ma and bro helped. Oh and the massive glass of Shiraz I had at a water front bar may have cheered me up a little.

ANYWAY, here are some delightful pictures for you to feast your eyes upon!
My view whilst sunbathing today, so hot!
View of the city from Kings Park, amazeballs!
Haha this pic makes me laugh, mine and the girls non make up selfie at The Lucky Shag bar, where everyone was dressed up all nice.
 Big sunglasses selfie at Freemantle.
